Off to Sydney, any travel tips?

Speed Boat, originally uploaded by Kent Johnson.

We will shortly be off to Sydney for Life in Style. It's mostly business but our kids will be joining us for part of the time.

I'd love to know if anyone has any tips for:

Fun excursions with two young boys, museums, ferry trips, parks etc.

Great restaurants, especially Middle Eastern, Thai, Italian etc.

Any vintage shops I mustn't miss?

Thanks so much, please email me or leave a comment if you can help.

It's a trade-only event but if you are intending to come please stop by and say hello! It's usually frantically busy on the Thursday and Friday so my tip is to come on the weekend when people have more time to chat.

Balmain Ferry - great shops and eateries along Darling St. Also the walk around the harbour, from Circular Quay, past Opera House then around the Botanical Gardens is great (if not raining....) If you're at The Rocks on the weekend they have some very good markets.

Can't wait for Life in Style Ingrid (Lottielulu) and I will be popping in on the Saturday so we will definitely say hello. I would second the Powerhouse, ferry trip to Manly.

We went to the Museum of Australia last week and it was great. Cheap, lots of things to touch and do and dinosaurs. Powerhouse is good too (and they have a Star Wars exhibit on at the moment).

For really good Turkish (a bit exey, probably not the best family restarant) Ottomans down on the finger wharves at the back of the Rocks is FABULOUS. Amazing view too. For cheaper very family friendly Lebanese we go to Abduls on the cnr Elizabether and Cleavaland Sts in Surry Hills. The banquet is excellent. It's not at all flash but it's good. Any Turkish/Lebanese on Surry Hills is also good.

Manly Ferry is fun, or Balmain.

Paddington Markets is good and you can wander around the shops at Paddington too.

Yum Cha at the Marigold on George St (it's upstairs from the st) or Cam Fook in the shopping centre above Paddy's markets are both good and kid friendly.

I am with Toy Society - Museum of Australia is FAB with the dinosaurs. So much to see, do and TOUCH!

BEST Italian is Fratelli Paradiso in Potts Point. No reservations, not always open, but damn fool it's worth it. Good for the smalls if you go at breakfast because they have the most awesome selection of pastries.. And my red hot tip is the breakfast risotto. I order it every time.

And if that's not happening for you, just around the corner is Yellow. Used to be the hub of artists - Martin Sharp established it based on Van Gogh's well-known concept of an artist's collective. Great food - great, great cakes.

AND - finally, vintage shops - been to The Vintage Clothing Shop in the city. Gorgeous. Others more homey stores - Doug up on Bourke, David Met Nicole.. And another store that's gorgeous and all about the creator is PLanet in Surry Hills. Beautiful.

Have a wonderful trip.

Oh and Thai - if you're looking for totally gorgeous Thai - then Sailors Thai in the Rocks (a bit exey), or Sailors Thai Canteen (a little cheaper). Delish!
