Pat

Pat is one of our favourite customers. She comes in to the shop nearly every week, and even phones us when she needs something but can't get to Daylesford. She snuck in on Monday when we were having a photoshoot for the shop, which was nice. This is one of the shoot photos. Pat's obsessed with red, especially red polka dots. Hello Pat if you're reading this - we'll let you know if that red spotty cakestand comes in this week!

This morning

My little boy has had his best friend for a sleepover. As expected, they woke at 5.30 am - uurgh!! I couldn't get cross, however, when I found they had been busy making this giant tea party for the teddies of the house.

My big boy has gone on his first school camp. He was very excited when he set off yesterday. Paul and I have been holding back the tears of course, as he seems way too little to be going away on his own. It's been a difficult year for him as he has gone into a new class with kids who are either older or a bit more worldly than him, the more 'boyish' kind of boys if you know what I mean. While he seems to be quite popular in the class (he was nominated student representative) we can see that he is not really able to relax and be himself, so we've been anxious about the camp, and just about him growing up in general, I mean where did those 8 years go? The saddest thing was seeing his favourite bear left behind, it's the first time he hasn't slept with him since he was three months old. Being the big softies that we are, Paul and I slept with Teddy in our bed last night! We just couldn't leave him on his own. Gosh, it's hard being a parent, isn't it? Hard sometimes being with your kids, and always hard being without them!

Smitten!

I am not a big iPhone apps junkie, I use my phone mainly to feed my addiction to checking my email when I'm away from home, but as a sucker for paint charts and a huge fan of Haymes paint, I jumped straight to the apps store when I heard that they have introduced a new app called Haymes iColour.

I am smitten - you can take a photo with your phone of anything that you love and get a match with a Haymes paint colour, which you can then go and check in a Haymes store (or if you're like me, you wont need to as you'll already own the megadeck of paint chips).

Not only that, but the app suggests a colour scheme around your chosen paint, and also other alternatives to look at. I took a photo of the new calendar from this month's Frankie magazine, which just happens to be on the wall near my desk, and apparently the nearest shade is Rapunzel (who wouldn't love a paint company with names like that?). So when I get home tonight I will check my charts to see how it compares!

How much fun am I going to have with this new toy? Hee hee hee...

Mother's Day Top Ten #8

I'm having fun putting together some top picks from the Lark web shop for Mother's Day, which is on Sunday 9th May here in Australia.

Today is the last of my Mother's Day posts and I have saved the best for last - Blom!

These pretty paper flowers from Dutch designer Jurianne make a wonderful alternative to fresh flowers - they are cute to look at and last forever!

Blom is brand new, we have just received the first stock in Australia this week.

In a gorgeous pack you get 15 pop out flowers, a gift tag and florist wire.

There are so many ways to use Blom. I am suggesting these as a Mother's Day gift but, quite frankly, I think you should probably buy a set for yourself as they are too lovely to give away! You can find the full details here.

Visit our Mother's Day online shop for lots more ideas. We ship within 24 hours all over Australia, and express post is available if you're like me and you manage to leave it to the last minute!

We also have gift certificates if you're not sure what to buy and, if you send me an email with all the details after you place your order, I will wrap your mum's pressie in some cute Cath Kidston giftwrap and mail it to her!

Keep in touch!

Did you know that Lark now has a newsletter? It comes out every two weeks and is the best way to find out about what's new, things that we love, what we've been up to and also any special store events, our sample sales, offers etc. There's a cute little box on the sidebar of this page where you can sign up if you'd like to receive it. x

Breakfast...

for two hungry boys. I think the vintage Noddy egg cups go rather nicely with the Viking breakfast plates. x

Mother's Day Top Ten #7

I'm having fun putting together some top picks from the Lark web shop for Mother's Day, which is on Sunday 9th May here in Australia.

Today I've chosen the lovely jewellery by Victoria Mason, who is one of Melbourne's most talented designers and an ace lady too. All of the pieces we have by Victoria follow domestic themes like cooking and craft, recognising that it’s often the smallest things which give us the greatest pleasure.

You can find Vic's range here.

Maeve is coming!

Can't wait, only a few days to go until the new Maeve magazine is launched. Here in Australia we are very lucky to have the most gorgeous and cool magazines in the world, and from what I've seen so far, Maeve will be right up there with the best of them. It's starting off as an online magazine, with some of the best contributors around, stunning photographs and awesome content.

OK, I am a little biased, as I was asked by Maeve to be their business guru, so I am going to be writing a regular column all about running your own business. My first piece is about managing the work/family balance, a topic that is very close to my heart. I hope you like it - Bee has been collaborating with me and has produced some fabulous illustrations to go with my words. Here is a very sneaky preview of her artwork.

To read the whole gorgeous mag, subscribe here and wait patiently for May 1st!

Shop Hours Today

If you're in Daylesford today (Monday), Ye Olde Larke Shoppe will be open only from 12-2, due to it being a public holiday and also my birthday. I have had the most amazing weekend, will tell you more in a day or two. Hope you had a good break for Anzac Day. xx

Yaysies, my copy of the latest Frankie just arrived (time for a cuppa).

Very pretty cover this month.

Feature on vintage caravans - I WANT!

Sew It Together

I just sent off this batch of wallpaper notebooks to Sheridan for the Sew It Together craft meet in May. It looks like it's going to be an amazing day! Mother's Day Top Ten #5

I'm having fun putting together some top picks from the Lark web shop for Mother's Day, which is on Sunday 9th May here in Australia.

Today is the turn of Ellen Giggenbach. Ellen moved from Germany to New Zealand with her family as a little girl. She creates her gorgeous artworks by cutting and assembling hand painted papers and they are inspired by her love of vintage illustration. Check out Ellen's new blog. Her work is now available on gorgeous kitchen textiles and stationery products, you can find the full range here. My personal favourites are the apron (modelled here by Tess in our shop) and the notebooks.

Visit our Mother's Day online shop for lots more ideas. We ship within 48 hours all over Australia, and express post is available if you're like me and you manage to leave it to the last minute!

Pebbles

This vintage dog kennel (I think), was hanging around outside the Daylesford Baazaar for a few weeks and I would see it every day on my walk home, but it now seems to have been sold. To another Pebbles perhaps?

Mother's Day Top Ten #4

I'm having fun putting together some top picks from the Lark web shop for Mother's Day, which is on Sunday 9th May here in Australia.

Another of my personal favourites is this card range by Lisa Jones. These lovelies are hand-printed by Lisa in her London studio, she is one of my favourite illustrators and her cards are very popular in our shop. Here are Lisa's special Mother's Day cards, although many of her other designs would also be suitable for your mum too!

Today's pick is the homewares and gifts we have featuring images from the Ladybird books archives of the 1950s and 1960s.

You'll find these charming, nostalgic images on cake tins, canisters, cards, coasters and even a clock!
